The Union Public Service Commission is the apex government recruitment commission of India. UPSC is a constitutional authority constituted under Article 315 of the Indian Constitution. It is designated to advice the central and state govts on matters and norms of recruitment to various senior positions in the civil service.
The UPSC is entrusted with very important responsibilities including recruitment to jobs under the Union government through competitive examinations, interviews, advice the central government, state governments and state Public Service Commissions on matters relating to the qualifications, experience requirements and other preconditions of officers through selection, promotion, or deputation. It also handles disciplinary matters of civil servants, pensions, reimbursements and miscellaneous matters of government offices and bureaucracy.
