The central government owns and controls different police forces for different functions of internal security. The major police forces maintained by the Central Government regularly recruit candidates at three levels: i.e, Constable (or Sepoy) level, Sub Inspector Level and Officers Levels. The top brass of most of the forces are served by Indian Police Service (IPS) officers selected through the All India Services (Civil Service) examinations conducted annually.
