National Council of Educational Research & Training (NCERT)
The National Council of Education Research and Training (NCERT)
is an autonomous organization formed by the government to advice and help the central and state governments in matters of education and teacher preparation. The main objective of NCERT is to form national curriculum for education at the school level and bringing about improvements in it through researched techniques.
Over the years since its establishment, NCERT has provided substantial support to the educational sector of India by providing curriculum design, research, book publishing, eductional administration and coordination.
At present India's primary and secondary education pattern is largely based on the organizations's guidelines from time to time and curriculum development.
Central Institute of Educational Technology is the constituent of NCERT designed to develop educational tools through various means of information technology and electronic methods. It has ten divisions which undertake each specialized function like information technology development, video production, audio production, script making, etc.
PSSCIVE is another organ of NCERT which organizes research, development, training and extension activities for promotion of vocational education at formal level. It also functions as International Project of Technical and vocational Education, a nodal organization for UNESCO.
A constituent of NCERT housed at Delhi, the National Institute of Education offers academic programs including educational research, development of textbooks and material and teacher training in-service.
Under NCERT there are five Regional Institutes of Education to promote teacher education, research and training activities. These instates are located at Ajmer, Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, Mysore and Shillong.
These institutes offer 4-year integrated B.Sc-B.Ed., 2-year B.Ed., 1-year M.Ed. (elementary education) and 1-year diploma course in guidance and counseling.
The NCERT undertakes its core programs and activities such as Research, Development, Training, Extension, Publication and Dissemination, and Exchange Programme. Its research and development of the methodologies of education are carried out through its various organs and constituents. The NCERT provides financial assistance to other organizations for conducting research, the result of such research is added as component of its own research.
Development activities include development of curriculum and instructional materials for various levels of school education. Its training services include in-service and pre-service training of teachers for all levels of school education, from pre-primary to senior secondary levels, vocational education, education technology, guidance and counseling and special education training. Extension activities are carried out through the organs and are aimed at helping the rural population in remote areas, those who are educationally disadvantaged and other where special efforts are required.
NCERT publishes textbooks, guide books, workbooks, supplementaries, teachers guides, research reports, and all types of electronic and other print media materials. It also interacts with various international organizations, counterparts in other countries and other research organizations within India in exchange of researched knowledge, for assistance in implementation of methodologies and information technology implementation as part of Exchange Programme.

Pandit Sunderlal Sharma Central Institute of Vocational Education (PSSCIVE)
