The Indian Agriculture Research Institute is the premier research institute in agriculture
and all related subjects. The graduates from IARI constitute the core of agriculture scientists in the country who are responsible for Green Revolution of India. The objectives of IARI consist of agriculture research, education, extension and information.

In agricultural research the institute works for the promotion of genetic conversion of agriculturally important microbial, cyanobcterial and insect resources. Through research the institute could improve productivity of agricultural crops and develop systemic tools and information systems for the promotion of environmentally sustainable agriculture. The institute also aims to develop greater technologies for crop research, genetics, soil research, productivity and natural fertilization, harvest technologies, post harvest grain storage and farm utilization techniques. Throughout the years IARI achieved landmark research knowledge resource and got much recognition from the International community.

IARI promotes educational excellence through its departments in strengthening the scientific agricultural knowledge of the country. The institute cares to incorporate empirical knowledge of physical, biological, social sciences and technologies such as biotechnology, information technology application, environmental science, management, post harvest technology, agricultural biodiversity and genetic resources. IARI offers courses at postgraduate, doctoral, post doctoral research, etc. as well as continuing education for operating professionals.

The IARI conducts M.Sc and Ph.D. Programs in various agricultural disciplines. The academic and research programs are guided under the following departments:
