Your way of answering "Tell me about yourself" decides almost one-half of the judgment criteria before an interviewer. That much important is your own understanding and the way you market yourself.

Here we are discussing in brief the important interview tips.

Understand the Company:
As soon as you get a call from a recruiter, do some research on that company? Understand its business, promoters and people behind it. It is possible that someone you know should be working in an influential position there. A reference from within will make your task easier. Also, knowing the company is key to like or dislike the company before you make a decision to join there.

Know the Job Requirements:
Perhaps the interviewer may find certain gap between the job description and your knowledge and expertise to fulfill them. It may be possible for you with initial exposure you can fill the gap but the interviewer may turn you down for another candidate. Prior understanding of complete job requirements may help you cover the gap by the time interview takes place.

Preparing for the Interview:
Prepare with general interview questions and your own answers for them like: 'tell me about yourself', 'why are you looking to change your current job', 'why did you choose this career', 'why should I hire you', 'what are your strengths and weaknesses', 'five years past what position do you expect to be', etc. These are common questions in the process of assessing a candidate but many find it difficult to answer.

Try to watch some job interview videos before interview and understand how to make yourself at ease. Discuss with some close friend of you; be sure that he/she is also not on the race for a similar post. Rehearse well one day before the interview. Be prepared to briefly explain your past experience and education and stress how it relates to the job. Don't speak negative about your present employer. Study thoroughly on the theoretical and practical aspects of your present job before going to face an interviewer.

Sleep well in the previous night and have light food for breakfast. Dress yourself in formal wear, simple and decent. Don't smoke, chew gum just before interview and avoid sharp smelling perfumes. Reach the venue well before the interview time. Talk with other candidates without divulging key factors about you. Make yourself calm. It is good to have a glass of water before facing interview.

Before the Interviewer:
Be alert and keep eye contact. Understand the question properly before you answer, you can ask the interviewer to make clear if you did not understand well. Avoid 'yes' or 'no' answers, try to elaborate your reason briefly. Show enthusiasm in the company and its business through your answers and body language. Don't request to conclude the interview before the interviewer express the conclusion sign. Give thank to the interviewer and express your interest in working with the company before leaving.

After Interview:
Make follow-up after reasonable time. Contact the interviewer on phone or by email. If selected you may be called for another round of discussion. At the second time carry all required documents relating to your education and past employment. Carry personal identity cards, educational testimonials and other documents relating to your past achievements.
